Privacy policy

The short version

We collect only what the site needs to work: your account details, the listings you publish, and the messages you send. There are no advertising trackers, no analytics cookies, and we never sell personal data. This page spells out the details.

Who we are

DjarMalta.com is a property listing site for the Maltese islands and the controller of the personal data described here. You can reach us through the contact form.

What we collect, and why

• Your account. Name, email address, an optional phone number, and your password — stored only as a cryptographic hash, never as the password itself. We use these to sign you in, to verify your email address before you can publish, and to contact you about your account.
• Your listings. The property details, photos and contact details you choose to publish. These are public by design — the point of a listing is that anyone can read it, including the contact name, email address and phone number you put on it.
• Enquiries you send. When you enquire about a listing we pass your name, email address, optional phone number and message to that listing’s advertiser, and keep a copy so the advertiser can read it on their dashboard and so it isn’t lost if the email fails. You also receive a copy by email.
• Messages to us. The contact form sends us your name, email address and message so we can reply.
• Technical data. Your IP address is used briefly, in memory, to limit how fast forms can be submitted (spam and abuse prevention), and our server logs record technical events such as email deliveries. We run no analytics and build no browsing profiles.

Cookies

The site sets one cookie, ps_session, when you sign in. It keeps you signed in for up to 30 days and does nothing else. There are no advertising, analytics or third-party cookies, which is why there is no cookie banner.

Who sees your data

Advertisers see the enquiries sent to their listings. The public sees what you publish on a listing. Beyond that, personal data is handled by the service providers that run the site — our hosting provider stores the database, and our email provider carries the messages the site sends. We do not sell personal data or share it for advertising.

How long we keep it

Your account and listings are kept until you ask us to delete them. Enquiries are stored alongside the listing they belong to and are deleted with it. Photos that end up attached to no listing are removed automatically. Deleting an account removes its listings, their photos, and the enquiries sent to them.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to how it is used, and receive it in a portable form. Send any of these requests through the contact form and we will act on them — including deleting your account and everything attached to it if you ask.

If you believe we have mishandled your data, you can complain to Malta’s Information and Data Protection Commissioner (idpc.org.mt).

Changes

If the site starts collecting something new, this page will change first and the date at the top will move.
